As
a veteran of the publishing industry, Lauren Sarat worked as an
assistant editor at Picador USA/St. Martin's Press, and with the
literary agency, Sobel Weber Associates. Prior to working in
publishing, she was a bookseller in traditional stores like Three Lives
& Co. in New York City, and also worked as a freelance features
editor with barnesandnoble.com.
Since leaving Manhattan in 2001, she taught creative nonfiction and fiction workshops at Brown University in
Providence, Rhode Island. She also taught creative writing at Rhode Island College, University of Connecticut, and Rutgers University. Her short story, "Russian Lessons," was nominated for a
Pushcart Prize, and "Tejas" was a finalist in the Raymond Carver Short
Story Contest. Her fiction and poetry has appeared in Shenandoah, New York Stories, Anonymous, The Plum Creek Review, Turnstile, and Confrontation. Her nonfiction has appeared in apt, Tomyex.com, and Rhode Island Monthly. The radio literary journal, The Lumberyard, which has been featured on
Connecticut Public Radio, aired her short works, "Matinee,"
"The Break-Up Flowers," and "Condiments and Other Sundries."
Since 1991, Lauren Sarat has provided outstanding editorial services to private clients and publishing houses like St. Martin's Press, HarperCollins, and Publishers Partnership Group.
